PLATTE

PLATTE is Berlin‘s first space for Fashion - Empowerment. As an inclusive community growing with every empowering activity, PLATTE wants to give fashion interested people and the creative industry a space and a partner to grow with it. For us, the fashion industry can be trendy, fast forward but can also be seen politically. PLATTE wants to work as an enabler and accelerator and link to Berliners and tourists. With our public store and event area, our photo studio and our office rooms, we offer Berlin’s first space for exchanges about fashion, creative and community topics focussed on individual demands. Every PLATTE project is a reflection on Berlin’s spirit and its existing communities.

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION OR GOAL WHEN YOU CAME UP WITH YOUR STORE/ATELIER CONCEPT?

The PLATTE project started as an initiative of the district offices of Berlin Pankow and Berlin Mitte.
The district offices offered a place to support Berlin based designers and forwarded this task to a
project management group of fashion experts. Based on the demands in Berlin, the project
management of PLATTE created a vision of an empowering inclusive space and created a corporate identity which created a massive awareness to Berliners and tourists.
PLATTE reacts on demands of Berlin based designers and works as an addition to the great work of Fashion Council Germany and VORN.
As a supplement institution, PLATTE closes the gap between Berlin‘s fashion industry and the Berliners and its tourists. With a main focus on B2C, we work as an empowering and enabling space for fashion and the creative industry.

HOW DOES THE LOCATION BERLIN INFLUENCE YOUR WORK?

PLATTE as an institution started with a place offered by the district offices of Mitte and Pankow in the heart of Berlin at Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt. So the location of PLATTE has been offered even before the project vision was created.
Based on the three levels with almost 800qm, the location built the fundament for the project itself. The vision of PLATTE and its community is based on the local conditions and demands in Berlin‘s fashion scene. The location of PLATTE is perfect for working with B2C related topics. With its own conceptstore, event space, studio and offices, PLATTE realizes inclusive B2C driven interactions for people who are interested in fashion and creative industry itself.

DESCRIBE YOUR JOURNEY INTO THE FASHION WORLD UP TO THE PRESENT DAY.

Two years ago, PLATTE started with a little project budget to renovate the location bit by bit.
Our first milestone was realized in a "Ballroom Fashion Show" at our first Fashion Week appearance in September 2021 and in October 2021, the PLATTE conceptstore started its services.
In 2022, the concept store and photo studio of PLATTE was improved and optimized in reach and income. Also, PLATTE put more focus on growing its community and B2C connections with different activities, such as the Studio2Retail Blockparty as the most inclusive Berlin Fashion Week event for B2C.
For 2023, we aim to create an even stronger awareness for Berlin based designers and want to enlargen the output of our concept store and work with the Berlin Contemporary competition winners.

WHAT KIND OF IMPACT DO YOU WISH TO CREATE WITH YOUR STORE/ATELIER?

PLATTE has been working as an impact institution for two years now. The PLATTE community consists of two sides. On the B2B side you’ve got fashion designers, stakeholders from fashion and other creative industries and on the B2C side, we welcome fashion interested people, tourists and other existing Berlin based communities.
PLATTE wants to empower fashion and wants to be an enabler for other communities that we already work or want to work with in the future. Inclusion, diversity and sustainability in
fashion and the creative industry are what we care about most at PLATTE.
We support a continually growing community which is welcoming to every fashion interested individual.
