OUT OF PLACE – HOMECOMING
Out of Place, Homecoming is the latest chapter in the ongoing AZEA ZALEA narrative exploring belonging, identity and representation.
Inspired by founder Miriam Kuna Schade’s first journey to Kenya earlier this year, the project reflects on heritage, reconnection and the creation of new possibilities of belonging.
Set at Sommerbad Humboldthain, Homecoming reimagines the visual language of 1970s Miami and Florida leisure culture. Glittering inflatables, vibrant swimwear and performative interventions transform the public pool into a playful landscape of pleasure, confidence and self-expression.
Historically shaped by exclusivity, these visual worlds are reclaimed through a contemporary lens that centers BIPOC communities. Between fashion, culture and visual storytelling, Homecoming creates new images of belonging in which those often positioned at the margins become the protagonists.
