NATASCHA VON HIRSCHHAUSEN
WASTE LESS FUTURE. Natascha von Hirschhausen stands for pioneering in the field of sustainable luxury fashion with a strong focus on zero-waste solutions.
"While every garment causes around 20% of loss in resources, we reduce this wasteful production
technique to less than 1% within our entire fashion collection by creating innovativ zero-waste
patterns. " This is only one of the many reasons why the brand disrupts fashion. Their holistic approach is unapologetic when it comes to sustainability and leads to reducing the carbon footprint to up to 60% for the lifecycle of their products.
With her minimalist, elegant yet relaxed designs, the designer creates versatile, unique objects and
thereby proves that "design really is the key to sustainability.
WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION OR GOAL WHEN YOU CAME UP WITH YOUR STORE/ATELIER CONCEPT?
I always say "Design ist the key to sustainability." Because only garments that are worn a lot and for a long time can ever be sustainable. That is why my ultimate inspiration comes from day-to-day life and necessities. I want my designs to accompany and make life easier by being unique and versatile at the same time. Only garments that feel great, age well and look amazing will become the favourites I want them to be.
DESCRIBE YOUR JOURNEY INTO THE FASHION WORLD UP TO THE PRESENT DAY.
Surprising and exciting. Surprising, because I did not know, that I wanted to be a fashion designer until I was 19. Back then I was studying physics (unhappily), until one day I bought a sewing machine to find a creative outlet. I immediately knew, that I would not want to do anything else. Fashion was it.
Since then I've come a long way. I finished my B.A. and M.A. and founded my brand during my
"Meisterschüler" at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. In 2021 I opened my store at Friedrichstraße and now, 2023, I am more than excited to present my 3rd edition "quiet rebellion" to the public.
WHAT KIND OF IMPACT DO YOU WISH TO CREATE WITH YOUR STORE/ATELIER?
I wish for people to experience that sustainable fashion is not something you have to do - it is not a duty. If you get to try it it is a liberation. It is something you will wonder how you could have done it any differently.
Let me paint a picture: Customers come to me and try on our bestseller: the unisex pants. They will get one. After a few weeks, they often come back to get one more, because they which for it, while the other one is in the laundry. Because our garments look elegant yet relaxed, they are greatly versatile and the feel is amazing. It is like wearing sweatpants but at the same time being dressed for any occasion.
Sustainable fashion is not only the way we have to go - it is also the way we should want to go. This is the main focus on mind shift, that we want to create with our uncompromising sustainable collection.
